Ezekiel 13:9

And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord God.
7

Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye say, The Lord saith it; albeit I have not spoken?

8

Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord God.

9

And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord God.

10

Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered morter:

11

Say unto them which daub it with untempered morter, that it shall fall: there shall be an overflowing shower; and ye, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall rend it.

Counter-Arguments

The strongest case that this verse does not belong in this theme.

Literal Fulfillment

While the verse speaks of concrete consequences like exclusion from the assembly, writing, and land, these could be interpreted metaphorically as spiritual separation or loss of divine favor rather than strictly physical or historical events.

Israel-Specific Promises

While the verse mentions "the house of Israel" and "the land of Israel," the primary focus is on God's judgment against false prophets, not on a promise *to* Israel, making it more about divine justice than a specific promise for the nation.

Israel as Distinct

The verse primarily addresses the judgment of false prophets within Israel, emphasizing their exclusion from the community and the land. While it implicitly reinforces the distinct identity of Israel by defining who belongs and who does not, its main focus is on divine judgment and the consequences for those who mislead God's people, rather than explicitly outlining Israel's distinct promises or future prophetic role separate from the Church. The "distinctness" here is more about internal purity

Prophetic Methods of Communication

This verse focuses on the judgment of false prophets and their exclusion from the community, not on the specific methods God uses to communicate with true prophets.

Destruction / Perishing Language

While the verse describes negative consequences for the prophets, it does not use explicit "destruction" or "perishing" language, but rather speaks of exclusion from community and land.
