Ezekiel 38:19

For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel;
17

Thus saith the Lord God; Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days many years that I would bring thee against them?

18

And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord God, that my fury shall come up in my face.

19

For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel;

20

So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.

21

And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord God: every man’s sword shall be against his brother.

Counter-Arguments

The strongest case that this verse does not belong in this theme.

Destruction at Coming

The verse speaks of a "great shaking in the land of Israel" in the context of God's jealousy and wrath, but it does not explicitly mention Christ's return or the destruction of the wicked. The shaking could refer to a natural disaster or a geopolitical upheaval, and the target of God's wrath is not specified as "the wicked" in this immediate verse.

Literal Fulfillment

While the verse speaks of a "great shaking," this could be interpreted metaphorically as a significant upheaval or societal change rather than a literal geological event, thus not necessarily implying a concrete physical fulfillment.

Fire Imagery

The phrase "fire of my wrath" is a metaphorical expression for intense anger, not a literal description of fire or burning as a judgment or punishment.

Time-Bound Fulfillment

The verse speaks of a future "day" but does not provide any specific duration, timeline, or recognizable markers for when this "day" will occur, making it difficult to identify a "defined duration" for its fulfillment.

Prophetic Methods of Communication

The verse describes God speaking and a future event, but it does not specify *how* God communicated this to Ezekiel or any other prophet. It focuses on the content of the message and God's attributes, not the method of its delivery to a human recipient.
