Hebrews 8:3

For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.
1

Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;

2

A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.

3

For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.

4

For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law:

5

Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.

Counter-Arguments

The strongest case that this verse does not belong in this theme.

Christ as High Priest

The verse speaks generally about "every high priest" and "this man" without explicitly naming Christ. While it establishes a necessary characteristic of a high priest, it does not directly state that "this man" is Christ or that he fulfills or transcends the Levitical priesthood.

Earthly Sanctuary System

The verse speaks generally about the role of a high priest and the necessity of offering, without explicitly mentioning the physical sanctuary, tabernacle, temple, or the Levitical priesthood. While it refers to a system of offerings, it does not specify that this system is inherently "earthly" or tied to a particular physical structure.

Ongoing Atonement

The verse states that a high priest *must* have something to offer, but it does not specify *what* that offering is, nor does it explicitly state that this offering is an ongoing application of a past sacrifice rather than a singular, completed act.
