Jeremiah 27:2

Thus saith the Lord to me; Make thee bonds and yokes, and put them upon thy neck,
1

In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah came this word unto Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,

2

Thus saith the Lord to me; Make thee bonds and yokes, and put them upon thy neck,

3

And send them to the king of Edom, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the Ammonites, and to the king of Tyrus, and to the king of Zidon, by the hand of the messengers which come to Jerusalem unto Zedekiah king of Judah;

Counter-Arguments

The strongest case that this verse does not belong in this theme.

Literal Fulfillment

While the command to make bonds and yokes is literal, the *meaning* of these objects as symbols of subjugation to Babylon is metaphorical, suggesting a deeper, non-literal interpretation of the "yoke" itself.

Prophetic Methods of Communication

This verse describes an action Jeremiah is commanded to perform, not the method by which God communicated that command to him. The phrase "Thus saith the Lord to me" indicates that communication has already occurred, but does not specify how.

Prophetic Sign Acts

The verse describes a command given to Jeremiah, but it does not explicitly state that the purpose of making and wearing the bonds and yokes is for a public, symbolic demonstration to communicate God's message, rather than a private instruction or a preparation for a future event.
