Counter-Arguments

The strongest case that this verse does not belong in this theme.

Annihilation / Destruction

The verse describes a transformation of the "destroying mountain" into a "burnt mountain," which could be interpreted as a change in state or function rather than complete cessation of existence.

Destruction / Perishing Language

The verse describes a transformation of the "destroying mountain" into a "burnt mountain," which could be interpreted as a change in state or purpose rather than complete annihilation.

Fire Imagery

While the verse mentions "burnt mountain," this is a metaphorical description of destruction rather than a literal depiction of fire or burning as an active agent of judgment. The primary actions described are being "against thee," "stretch out mine hand," and "roll thee down from the rocks," none of which inherently involve fire.

Punishment Language

The verse describes a destructive act by God against a "destroying mountain," which could be interpreted as a necessary act of removal or neutralization rather than an act of punitive judgment.

Literal Fulfillment

The imagery of a "destroying mountain" being "rolled down from the rocks" and made a "burnt mountain" could be interpreted metaphorically for the destruction of a powerful nation or entity, rather than a literal geological event.
