14

Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the Lord your God, and cry unto the Lord,

Alas for the day! for the day of the Lord is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

16

Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?

Counter-Arguments

The strongest case that this verse does not belong in this theme.

Imminent Return

The "day of the Lord" in this verse refers to a specific judgment or disaster, not necessarily the return of Christ, and the imminence is in relation to that specific event.

Future Fulfillment

While the verse clearly speaks of a future event, the phrase "day of the Lord" in prophetic literature can sometimes refer to a more immediate, historical judgment rather than exclusively an eschatological one.

The Lords Day

The verse does not explicitly mention worship or a specific day of the week, but rather focuses on the destructive aspect of "the day of the Lord."
