Numbers 6:2

Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When either man or woman shall separate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate themselves unto the Lord:
1

And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

2

Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When either man or woman shall separate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate themselves unto the Lord:

3

He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried.

4

All the days of his separation shall he eat nothing that is made of the vine tree, from the kernels even to the husk.

Counter-Arguments

The strongest case that this verse does not belong in this theme.

Israel-Specific Promises

The verse describes a personal vow that any Israelite man or woman can make, not a promise or prophecy directed at the nation of Israel as a whole.

Total Abstinence

The verse introduces the concept of a Nazarite vow, which involves separation and specific abstentions, including from wine. However, it does not "warn against wine or alcohol entirely" for all people, nor does it "command avoidance" for the general populace. It describes a *voluntary* vow for a *specific period* for *specific individuals*. Therefore, it doesn't present abstinence as the ideal for everyone, but rather as a component of a particular religious commitment.
