Counter-Arguments

The strongest case that this verse does not belong in this theme.

Destruction / Perishing Language

The verse explicitly states "I will utterly consume all things," which directly aligns with the theme's defined language of destruction and perishing.

Fire Imagery

The verse states that the Lord will "utterly consume all things," which implies destruction, but it does not explicitly mention fire, burning, or any other fire-related imagery. The consumption could be through various means, not necessarily fire.

Destruction at Coming

The verse speaks of a general destruction "from off the land" without specifying the nature of those being consumed or explicitly linking it to a future return of Christ. It could refer to a more immediate, historical judgment or a broader, non-eschatological cleansing.

Annihilation / Destruction

The verse states "all things" will be consumed "from off the land," which could be interpreted as a removal or displacement rather than complete cessation of existence for the things themselves. The focus is on their absence from the land, not necessarily their ultimate annihilation.

Literal Fulfillment

The phrase "all things" could be interpreted as hyperbole or a figure of speech for a significant, but not absolute, destruction, rather than a literal eradication of every single item from the land.

Punishment Language

The verse describes a comprehensive removal or consumption of "all things" from the land, which could be interpreted as a cleansing or a natural consequence rather than an act of deliberate punitive judgment.

Prophetic Methods of Communication

The verse states "saith the Lord," indicating the *source* of the message, but it does not describe *how* that message was communicated to the prophet (e.g., dream, vision, audible voice).
