And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

Counter-Arguments

The strongest case that this verse does not belong in this theme.

Jesus and the Sabbath

This verse is from the Old Testament book of Exodus and predates Jesus's earthly ministry by centuries. It discusses the Sabbath commandment given to the Israelites, but it does not mention Jesus in any capacity, nor does it depict him keeping, teaching on, or discussing the Sabbath.

Seventh-Day Sabbath

The verse explicitly mentions "the sabbath" and its keeping, but it does not explicitly reference or define it as the "seventh day" within this particular verse.

Sabbath Commandment

While the verse commands keeping the Sabbath, it doesn't explicitly state it is part of the Ten Commandments or the broader Mosaic Law, only that it is holy and has consequences for disobedience.

Sabbath as Perpetual

The verse emphasizes the holiness and strict observance of the Sabbath with severe penalties for defilement, but it does not explicitly state that the Sabbath itself is everlasting, perpetual, or a permanent sign.

Destruction / Perishing Language

While "cut off" implies a severe consequence, it doesn't explicitly state destruction or perishing in the sense of physical annihilation, but rather separation from the community.

Annihilation / Destruction

The phrase "cut off from among his people" does not necessarily imply annihilation or ceasing to exist, but could refer to excommunication or social ostracization within the community.

Sabbath at Creation

This verse commands the keeping of the Sabbath and outlines penalties for its violation, but it makes no mention of creation, God resting on the seventh day, or any connection between the Sabbath and the act of creation.
