Hebrews 9:24

For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:
22

And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

23

It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

24

For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

25

Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;

26

For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

Counter-Arguments

The strongest case that this verse does not belong in this theme.

Completed Atonement

The verse states Christ "is not entered" into earthly holy places but "into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us," which could be interpreted as a description of a completed entry and present state, rather than an ongoing process of atonement.

Christ as High Priest

The verse describes Christ's entry into heaven and appearance before God, which are actions, but it does not explicitly use the title "High Priest" or directly detail the functions of mediation, intercession, or sacrifice that define the theme.

Heavenly Sanctuary

The verse contrasts earthly "holy places made with hands" with "heaven itself," which could be interpreted as simply a spatial distinction rather than implying a structured "sanctuary" with specific functions like a tabernacle or throne room.

Ongoing Atonement

While the verse states Christ is in heaven "to appear in the presence of God for us," it does not explicitly define this appearance as an "ongoing active priestly ministry of intercession, application, and mediation," but rather describes a singular entry into heaven.
